Alben Prazak, Sr., 93, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022, after a brief illness.
A public visitation was held on Monday, April 25, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m., also at Phillips & Luckey.
Alben Prazak, son of the late Matej Prazak, a native of Czechoslovakia and Marie Mader Prazak, was born November 28, 1928, in Chriesman, Texas.
Alben loved family history and sharing how his family came to the United States. He also enjoyed learning new tidbits about that history and loved to hear Chris Ryback sing.
Alben grew up farming with his family in Burleson County.
In 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served as a Medical Technician in Korea. Alben worked in field hospitals treating the wounded.
Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned to Texas and the family farm, eventually moving to Houston, where he worked as a welder at Hughes Tools.
In 1953, Alben married his sweetheart, Tracy Ann Lacina, and to that union were born four children.
In the early 1970s, the family moved to Caldwell, where Alben went to work for Nagle and later for Sherman Wire. He retired from Sherman Wire in the early 90s.
Alben was an avid fisherman and took all his children fishing from a young age. They recalled fishing at the Texas City Dike with their dad, uncles and cousins when they lived in Houston.
Once they moved to Caldwell, their fishing spot became Lake Somerville, and they would be out at the lake anytime they could, sometimes camping, sometimes running trot lines, but always have a good time and some great fish fries.
Alben was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond and Isador Prazak; and sister, Betty Prazak Fisher, and her husband, Pete.
He is survived by his sons, Randy and wife, Valerie, Alben Jr. and wife, Anita, and Bruce and wife, Grace; daughter, Carolyn Prazak; grandchildren, Amy and Stephen Roberts, Chris and Charity Prazak, Keith and Michelle Prazak, Shannon Prazak, Tim Prazak, and Tonya Prazak. He also leaves behind several great-grandchildren, along with numerous cousins and friends.
He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
