An interment for Leona Marie Weichert Van Mater, 74, was held privately for family and friends.
Leona was born on Feb. 2, 1948, in Burleson County, Texas, to Leo Daniel Weichert and Rosalie Theresa Vykukal Weichert.
Many knew Leona from Caldwell, or as a Dairy Queen manager in Snook and previously Somerville.
For the past 30 years, she lived near Hallsville, Texas.
After working in Longview, Texas, she re-tired from Brookshire Grocery Co. in 2015.
She was a graduate of Caldwell High School (1966) and Blinn College (1990).
While studying history and political science at the University of Texas at Tyler, she was duly elected a member of Alpha Chi, National College Honor Society (2003).
She died at home on Dec. 8, 2022.
Leona is survived by three children; and her husband of 34 years.
