SHIRLEY BURKHALTER

Shirley Ann (Sebesta) Burkhalter, 68, of Snook, Texas passed away on March 9, 2023, at her home surrounded by those that loved her most.

She was born in Houston, Texas, to Robert Sebesta and Frances (Macik) Sebesta on June 20, 1954.

Shirley went to school at Snook ISD and got her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Texas A&M University. Shirley taught many students in her 30-year career at Snook ISD. She loved teaching and continued to do so after retirement as a substitute.

Shirley loved life and adventure. Going on cruises and fishing were her biggest passions.

She loved to cook and bake and spend time with family. Her gorgeous birthday cakes were requested by all her nieces and nephews for birthday parties.

Unlike most, Shirley loved getting jury summons in the mail. She even completed the Bryan Citizens Police Academy.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Robert Sebesta.

She is survived by her longtime partner, James Prihoda, whom she spent 23 years with, enjoying all the adventures in life they could. Shirley herself, called James a Saint, for all he did for her during her 7-month battle with cancer, she cherished him dearly. She is also survived by her mother, Frances Sebesta; brothers, Waldo Sebesta (Linda), Robert (Bobby) Sebesta (Brandy); as well as her beloved nieces and nephews, John Sebesta (Rachel), Robert (Bubba) Sebesta (Melissa), Kasey Brown (Clayton), Kerrianne Ferrero (Denny), Kelly Rodden (Randy), and Justin Tarver; along with James’ son, Brad Prihoda and wife, Morgan, who made her a GiGi when they had their twins, Brody and Mabry Prihoda.

Pallbearers were John Sebesta, Robert (Bubba) Sebesta, Justin Tarver, Edward (Chooch) Macik, Kenneth Macik, Richard Sebesta, Jimmy Joe Svec, and Robert Rubach.

Visitation was held Monday, March 13, 2023, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 5376 Raymond Stotzer Pkwy., College Station, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CAST for Kids Foundation or the charity of your choice.
