Robert Henry Wiederhold, 92, of Caldwell, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 17, 2023.
A public visitation was held in his honor on Monday, June 19, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday June 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Elizabeth Lutheran Church in Caldwell.
Interment followed at Elizabeth Lutheran Cemetery.
Robert Henry Wiederhold was born on December 2, 1930, in a tenant house on the Louis Wiederhold Place north of Deanville, Texas, on County Road 60 in Burleson County.
He was the 10th of 12 children born to Robert (1885-1972) and Alma (Klagmann) (1894-1979) Wiederhold.
Cedar Creek in Burleson County became the next home for the family, and it was here that Robert started First Grade at Hoskin School.
In the Fall of 1938 when Robert was in the Second Grade, the family moved to the Kubena Place on the outskirts of Dime Box, and he attended Dime Box School until he was in the Tenth Grade.
After two years on the Kubena Place, the family moved to the Fox Place located on Highway 21 about three miles west of Old Dime Box.
Robert was baptized at the St. John Lutheran Church in Deanville, Texas, with Mrs.Tiemann as his Sponsor.
He was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Dime Box on March 18, 1945. His confirmation verse was John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
Robert was drafted in to the U.S. Army in 1952 and was assigned to the 3rd Infantry in Korea as a Radio Operator. He received his Honorable discharge in February 1954 and moved back to Dime Box where he worked on the farm with his family.
Robert bought the Wiederhold Meat Market in Dime Box in 1956 from his brother, Edgar Wiederhold, and owned that Meat Market for 12 years until 1968.
On November 10, 1956, Robert was united in Marriage with Alice Marie Roemer at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine.
They began their married life in Dime Box and were members of St. John Lutheran Church in Dime Box.
Robert and Alice were blessed with three daughters, Gail, Penny, and Jill.
In January 1968, Robert was accepted into The Texas A&M Game Warden Academy and was commissioned as a Texas Game Warden on June 19, 1968. He was assigned to Burleson County, Texas so he and his Family moved to Caldwell at that time. He served as Burleson County Game Warden until his retirement in 1993 after 25 years of Service.
While living in Caldwell, Robert and his family became members of Elizabeth Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council for many years.
Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his garden and spending time with his family and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alma (Klagmann) Wiederhold; brothers, Albert (wife, Milady), Lee Roy (wife, Evelyn), Marlin, Wilburn, Ervin (wife, Mildred), Edgar (wife, Ruby); sisters, Viola (husband, Gerhard) Kissman, Alene (husband, James) Cottrell, Joyce Zwerneman; brother-inlaw, Leroy Zwerneman.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alice; his three daughters, Gail and her husband, Bobby Davis, of Longview, Penny and her husband, Vince Neal, of Caldwell, and Jill and her husband, Scott Smajstrla, of Boerne; his four grandchildren, Natalie and her husband, Dallas Long, of Longview, Allison and her husband, Alan Ford, of Boerne, Ryan Smajstrla and his wife, Bria, of New Braunfels, and Emily Smajstrla of Boerne; and five greatgrandsons, Max and Crew Long, Hudson and Lincoln Smajstrla, and Jack Ford, and in November, baby Luke Ford. He is also survived by his brother, J.C. and wife, Dorothy, of Dime Box; sister, Lavern of Georgetown; brother-inlaw, Fred Zwerneman of Dime Box; sister-inlaw, Ruth Wiederhold of Caldwell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to offer their heartfelt thanks to his beloved caregivers who became a part of the family during the last year.
Serving as pallbearers were Bobby Davis, Vince Neal, Scott Smajstrla, Dallas Long, Alan Ford and Ryan Smajstrla.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Elizabeth Lutheran Church July 3rd Celebration.
