David “Mike” Gilbert was born on April 16, 1947, in Houston, Texas, to Charles M. Gilbert and Mary Sue Gilbert.
Mike passed away peacefully on July 1, 2023, in Houston, Texas, with his loving family at his bedside after a brief illness.
Mike spent most of his young life in Houston, graduating from Reagan High School in 1967.
He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Diana Rose Marek, on June 10, 1967. They settled in Tomball, Texas, where they raised their two children, Tami Rene and Jason Michael.
Mike spent most of his career in the insurance appraisal business.
After retirement from USAA in 2008, he and Diana moved to Caldwell, Texas, where they became active members of New Tabor Brethren Church.
Mike was an attentive father, adoring husband, loving grandfather, and loyal friend.
He was a World War II history buff, enjoyed everything Aggie, and loved spending time at the family farm.
But most importantly, he treasured time spent with friends and family.
Mike will be deeply missed by all those who knew him and loved him.
Mike is survived by his wife, Diana, of 56 years; son, Jason Gilbert and his wife, Meagan; daughter, Tami Whitmarsh and her husband, Brad; sisters, MaryAnn Jones and her husband, Mike, and Brenda Hutchinson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Camryn Whitmarsh, Lauren Whitmarsh, Peyton Whitmarsh, Anna Gilbert, and Haley Gilbert; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas, on Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at New Tabor Brethren Church on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at New Tabor Cemetery.
