Janice Annette Schubert Crook, our beloved wife, mom, daughter and “Grammy J,” passed from this world to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on September 13, 2023, at the age of 65.
Born in Brenham, Texas, to Leo and Evelyn Knesek Schubert on November 21, 1957, she grew up in Lyons, Texas.
She attended school in Somerville, Texas, graduating from Somerville High School in 1976. She went on to pursue an Associate’s degree in Business from Blinn College.
After college, Janice worked for several years as a secretary for the Texas A&M University Vice President’s office.
After leaving Texas A&M, she took a job for the USDA ASCS (now Farm Service Agency), where she worked until 1986. This is where she would meet her soulmate, Bryan Crook.
Bryan and Janice were married October 11, 1986, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Somerville, Texas.
Bryan and Janice became parents in 1989 to their only daughter, Jana. Janice stayed at home to care for Jana.
In 1992, Janice and her mother, Evelyn, opened Grandma’s Craft House in Lyons, successfully owning and operating this business for 10 years.
Janice was incredibly talented, especially with crafts, painting, woodworking and floral arrangements.
Throughout this time, Janice continued to devote her time to her family as a homemaker and caregiver, which she would continue to do for the rest of her life.
Janice volunteered in her church, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in many roles. These roles include CCD teacher and coordinator, as well as co-founder of the silent auction with the annual bazaar.
Once Jana began school, Janice was involved in every way possible, including as a PTO officer, band booster, athletic booster, and service in many other areas. Janice very much cherished many memories from her time working and volunteering, and made many friends who became family during these times.
Janice was the most loving, devoted, giving wife, mom, daughter, friend, and most recently, “Grammy J,” that anyone could ask for. She will be missed dearly everyday by many. Janice was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles and Ella Schubert, and Martin and Annie Knesek; one aunt, Anna Mae Knesek; and her mother-in-law, Betty Crook.
She is survived by her parents, Leo and Evelyn Schubert; her loving husband, Bryan Ray Crook; her daughter and sonin- law, Jana and David Junek; one granddaughter, Cheyanna Beth Junek; father-in-law, Don Ray Crook; sisters-in-law, Terri Cobb and Mendi Walker; and numerous beloved cousins and friends.
