Arthur Lytle Suehs

Arthur Lytle Suehs, 84, of Deanville, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

He was born on August 27, 1940, in Caldwell, to Harry E. Suehs and Elsie Prazak Suehs; the fourth oldest in a family of eleven.

A public visitation was held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.

Interment followed at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Deanville.

Arthur attended Deanville School through the eighth grade. After that, he attended Caldwell High School and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1958.

After graduation, he went to work for Texas A&M University in September 1958 when Earl Rudder was president. There were only about 4500 students and no women were allowed to be enrolled.

Arthur took classes at Texas A&M for several years in computer classes and accounting.

After 35 years of employment, he retired from Texas AgriLife (Texas A&M) in August 1993 where he was then able to enjoy fishing, dancing, hunting and his favorite sports to the fullest.

Halloween Day 1963, Arthur was drafted into the United States Army where he served from Oct. 31, 1963 to Oct. 29, 1965.

In his second week of training at Fort Polk, John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas.

Most of his Army career was served at Fort Hood.

One of his most talked about experiences while serving in the military was in 1964, where he went on a military exercise to the Mojave Desert in California, for about four months. There were no showers, brutal sand storms and over 50 soldiers were killed. This exercise was called the Desert Strike. After the exercise had ended he drove a 5-ton diesel truck and trailer back to Fort Hood.

Arthur was baptized and confirmed at St John’s Lutheran Church in Deanville.

He was a member of Deanville Lodge 301 (Sons of Herman) and the American Legion in Bryan.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, James E Suehs Sr.; and sister, Patsy Lollis.

He is survived by his brothers, Burten (Agnes) Suehs of Wellborn, Harry (Elvina) Suehs of Bryan, Donnie (Betty) Suehs of Caldwell, Bobby (Dawn) Suehs of Bryan, and Charles Suehs of Deanville. Arthur is also survived by sisters, Juanita (Donald) Vance of Lake Jackson, Darlene (Henry) Vajdak of Snook, and Diana (Howard) Peeler of Bryan. Goddaughters, Holly Suehs Narro and Mindy Suehs Bammel; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
