John Paul Sanchez, 54, of Somerville went home to be with the Lord on April 6, 2026.
Visitation is set for Friday, April 17, 2026, at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville, from 5-8 p.m. with Rosary recited at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial is Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
John Paul, affectionally known as JP, was born on November 29, 1971.
JP graduated salutatorian from Somerville High School class of 1990. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from University of Texas and his MBA from Texas State University.
He was a devout Catholic and was able to reconfirm his baptism in the Jordan River while visiting the Holy Land for his pilgrimage.
JP loved to travel and bring souvenirs to all his loved ones so they could share in his travels.
When at home JP spent his afternoons outside walking his buddy Baxter.
Baseball was another joy of his, he was able to play intramural baseball and loved to watch his Astros any chance he got.
He was kind to everyone and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
John Paul was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Ernestina Lomas; maternal grandparents, Severo and Mary Cienga; aunt and uncle (God parents), Frank and Erma Vittonel.
John Paul leaves behind to cherish his memory, parents, John and Pauline Sanchez; brother, Joseph Sanchez (Anna); best friend, Baxter; nephew, Valentine Loera; God sister, Christy Vittonel; God daughter, Brianna Hernandez; along with numerous cousins, friends and other relatives.
Pallbearers are Valentine Loera, Marcus Vittonel, Christopher Holder, Julian Holder, Marcus Vittonel Jr. and Valerie Hernandez.
Honorary pallbearers are Manuel Lomas, Rueben Solano, Matthew Saldana and Roman Solano.
Memorials may be directed to St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
