Services for Gardina Jannie Vavra, 100, of Caldwell, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, at the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell.
Burial will follow at San Antonio Cemetery near Deanville.
Visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, at the Strickland Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7 p.m.
Mrs. Vavra died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, in Caldwell.
Gardina was born Jan. 5, 1920, in the Rita community near Cooks Point, to Joe Kubena Jr. and Jannie (Blinka) Kubena.
Gardina married Edward Vavra on June 19, 1937. This union was blessed with 51 years of marriage until Mr. Vavra passed away in 1988.
Mrs. Vavra was a hard worker. She would help Edward with ranching first at a ranch in Roanoke, Texas, owned by Golfer Byron Nelson Jr., then Feathercrest Farms in Kurten.
After Edward retired, Gardina started to work at Kellar Ladder & Chair Company until she retired in the early 70s.
Her favorite hobbies included gardening, rose bushes, sewing, making kolaches, fishing and watching old time Westerns.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Vavra; and five brothers.
Gardina is survived by her loving family, a daughter, Gloria Prazak of Caldwell; her granddaughters, Jennifer Armstrong and husband, Mike, and Melissa Leedy and boyfriend, Troy Peterson; and her great-grandchildren, Austyn Pruett, Anastacia Solbakken, John Thomas “JT” Armstrong, and Jazmine Armstrong; her great-great-granddaughter, London Bridges; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and greatgreat-niecesnephews, great-and great-great-nephews and great-great-great-nieces, and great-great-great-nephews and other relatives.
