Funeral Services for Deacon Charlie James Moore, 81, of Somerville, Texas, will be held Saturday, December 26, 2020, at 11 a.m. at The New Life Church of God, located at 1990 F.M. 389, Brenham, Texas.
Burial will follow at the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020, in the Chapel of Lewis Funeral Home, located at 509 South Baylor Street in Brenham, Texas.
On Thursday, December 17, 2020, Deacon Charlie Moore Jr. earned his wings at 3:05 p.m. at the Scott and White Hospital in College Station, Texas.
He was born to Charlie Moore Sr. and Willie Mae (Townsend) Moore in Lyons, Texas, on September 8, 1939.
Deacon Charlie Moore was the first of 12 siblings. They are Willie, Delores, Robert Albert, Robert Lee, Hester, Jolene, Willie John, Barbnett, Mary, Douglas, and Annette.
He attended Emmitt J. Scott High School in Somerville, Texas, where he received his high school diploma.
At an early age he confessed his belief in Christ and became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Lyons, Texas, under the leadership of Pastor Howard Lee Munson.
Upon marriage, he joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the Quarry, Texas, where he resided until his death. As a member of Mt. Zion (Quarry, Texas), he faithfully served as a Deacon, Choir Director and Church Treasurer.
Deacon Charlie’s favorite song was, “ I Will Trust In the Lord.”
He trusted in the Lord faithfully until his death.
He was employed and retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 40 years of service.
Deacon Charlie was a Grand Master of Lodge #253 serving in all capacities.
He was preceded in death by his mother; father; brother (Lacey Moore); baby sister; grandson (Casie Moore); and son-in-law (Willie Joe Manas).
Charlie married Minnie Hogues on June 8, 1963. To them were six siblings born, Aneathia Mathis (Craig Mathis), Stephanie Banks, Gerry Moore (Patricia), Treas Manas, Stanford Moore (Catina), and Latasha White. Deacon Charlie Moore Jr. had 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Ruby Williams, and a host of nieces and nephew whom he loved very much.
