A celebration of life for William Charles “Chuck” Fritcher, 74, of Caldwell, was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, at the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Fritcher died on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, in Bryan.
Chuck was born on March 31, 1946, to Willie Raymond and Jennie Fritcher in Bryan.
He grew up and spent nearly all of his life in Caldwell, marrying Bettye Dotson on June 17, 1967.
They had one daughter, Trisha Scanlin, born in 1970, whom he loved dearly.
A lifelong mechanic and certified welder, his career gave him many wonderful opportunities. Starting out working in his father’s auto shop and helping out on their family farm, he eventually gained employment with companies such as Chevrolet and IGC--with whom he spent 15 years and reached a supervisory position.
After retiring in the 1990s, he spent much of his spare time rebuilding vehicles, helping his wife with her upholstery business, cooking amazing dishes for anyone he could, and teaching his three beloved grandchildren all sorts of things from how to drive all the way to how to make a potato gun.
A friend to all, no one was ever a stranger to him, family members said. He was always more than happy to spark up a delightful conversation with anyone he ran into.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Raymond Fritcher; his mother, Jennie Fritcher; and his wife, Bettye Fritcher.
Chuck is survived by his mother-in-law, Eunice Dotson; his daughter, Trisha Scanlin and husband, Frank; his sisters, Carol and husband, Wilcox, and Bonnie Tomlinson and husband, Jay; his uncle, Edward Fritcher and wife, Joann; his grandchildren, Ryan Scanlin and partner, Yazna Gonzalez, and Will Scanlin and wife, Rebecka Scanlin; his cousins, Floyd and Bob Fritcher, Carolyn and Corky Deutsch, and Susan Deutsch Morris; and many loving nieces, nephews, and longtime family friends.
Friends and family are welcomed to leave a message or send a letter in honor of Chuck.
