BRENDA “SUSIE” BRISCO

A Memorial Mass for Brenda “Susie” Berkenhoff Brisco, 80, of Hideaway will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Mrs. Brisco died on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, in Bryan.

Susie was born on Jan. 1, 1941, in Hallettsville.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Hallettsville in 1959.

She married Weldon Brisco on Dec. 21, 1959, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She and Weldon lived in different places while he was employed in the oil industry.

They settled in Hideaway when he retired in 1993.

She and Weldon were married for 55 years until his death in 2015.

Susie had the heart of a servant. She was a bedrock member of the Holy Family Catholic Church of Lindale, where she devoted much of her time and served in many capacities: Sacristan, St. Paul Society, Holy Family Kitchen Captain, Our Ladies’ Altar Guild, Extra-ordinary Minister, and Religious Education Teacher.

She was a member of the Tyler Council of Catholic Women and the Legion of Mary.

She also spent time volunteering with the local Meals on Wheels program.

She loved to garden, cook and visit with family and friends.

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She never knew a stranger and will always be remembered for her friendly smile and joyful personality. She was loved dearly by her family, her classmates and her close friends in Hideaway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon Brisco; her mother, Julia Riebschlaeger Hartmann; her stepfather, Henry Hartmann; and her brother, Gus Berkenhoff.

Susie is survived by her sons, Marshall Brisco and wife, Myra, Travis Brisco and Mary Dodson, and Russell Brisco and wife, Kristine; her brother, Randy Hartmann and wife, Charlotte; her sister-in-law, Cathy Berkenhoff; her grandchildren, Madison Courts and husband, Dustin, Morgan Brisco and fiancé, Clayton Barbay, Jaycie Brisco, and Jaxon Brisco; and her stepgranddaughter, Riley Trahan.
