Graveside service for Gwendolyn Schoppe, 87, of Somerville, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville with Brother Corby Brizendine officiating.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
Mrs. Schoppe died on Monday, March 29, 2021.
Gwen was born on Oct. 20, 1933, in Somerville, to Chris Balke and Inez (Sears) Balke.
Gwendolyn loved to fish, decorate cakes, listening to Elvis Presley, watching college football and cooking Sunday dinner for the whole family to sit down.
She enjoyed sitting on the porch to watch nature happening.
She was an avid reader of mystery and romance novels.
Gwendolyn was married to the love of her life, L. D. Schoppe, on Sept. 22, 1954, and graduated Somerville High School class of 1951.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Inez Balke; her husband, L.D. Schoppe; her infant son, Darrell Lee Schoppe; her sister, Doreen Brown; and her brother, Billy Balke.
Gwen is survived by her son, Leslie Schoppe of Somerville; her daughters, Vickey Webb of Somerville, and Mary Meschwitz and husband, Davey, of Brenham; her grandchildren, Christopher Webb, Jennifer Schoenberg, Jason Webb, D.J. Meschwitz, and Amber Madden; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Christopher Webb, Jason Webb, D.J. Meschwitz, and G.H. Schoenberg.
Honorary pallbearers are Bill Ulich, Bobby Ulich, Jamie Langham, James Schoppe, Roger Caldwell, Robert Brown, and Robert Balke.
