FLORENTINO “FLOYD” BASQUEZ

A Mass of Christian Burial for Florentino “Floyd” Basquez, 98, of Chriesman was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, at St. Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Melvin Dornak officiating.

Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Visitation was held from 8-10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mr. Basquez died on Monday, Aug. 16, 2021, in Beaumont.

Florentino was born on Nov. 16, 1922, in Chriesman to Marcello and Fermina Basquez.

Florentino moved to Caldwell where he made many friends with his burritos and tamales. Everyone loved them.

Floyd and Ollie enjoyed gardening together, dancing, spending time with family and friends.

Floyd enjoyed farming and ranching in his younger years and loved Hispanic music.

His favorite pastime was sitting on the front porch, piddling in the yard, going to the Caldwell Senior Center and just being with his friends. Floyd never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcello and Fermina Basquez; his wife, Ollie Verdine Basquez; one sister; and six brothers.

Florentino is survived by his daughter, Maria Basquez Gibson and husband, Benny, of Beaumont; his grandson, John F. Mouton of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as other relatives and friends.

He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Pallbearers were Thomas Vasquez, Stephen Vasquez, Paul Vasquez, Moses Luna, Ronny Harrison, and Fred Havel.

Honorary pallbearers were John F. Mouton, Inez Martinez, Benny Gibson, and Larry Faust.

Services were under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.
