Graveside services for Betty J. (Fagan) Mahan, 78, of Decatur will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at Smetana Cemetery in Smetana, officiated by minister Sherman Alexander.
Mrs. Mahan died on Friday morning, Oct. 8, 2021, in Decatur.
Betty was born in Bryan to Joseph Fagan and Annie (Dudake) Fagan. She grew up in Bryan
She grew up in Bryan and married Donald John Mahan on March 31, 1963, and they were together for 48 years until his passing in 2011.
Betty and Donald resided in Somerville for most of their marriage.
They had two children: Troy Allen Mahan and Guinett Lynn Mahan.
Betty loved her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren deeply.
Betty loved the Lord, outdoors, nature, watching the deer pass through the yard, birds, particularly hummingbirds, gardening, hunting and fishing.
She was an active, devoted member of Zion Church of Christ in Lyons.
Betty worked as an accountant in the electrical engineering department of Texas A&M University, where she handled grants for the professors.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Donald Mahan, brother Joseph Fagan, Jr., and sister Helen Fagan Bryant.
She is survived by son Troy Mahan and wife, Cindy, of Snook; daughter, Guinett Lewis and husband, James, of Decatur; grandchildren, Lindseigh Mahan Warnock, Logan Mahan, Marilyn Lewis Shingler, James L. Lewis III, Justin Clark and Jarad Clark; and great-grandchildren, Mila, Aria, Holly, Eli James, Darcy, and Julianne.
