Billy Lynn Kornegay, 74, of Caldwell, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2021.
A public visitation was held on Monday, January 3, 2022, beginning at 4:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas.
A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Billy was born November 23, 1947, to Clarence and Betty Lou (Warlick) Kornegay in Bryan, Texas. He was raised in Burleson County for the most part, but also lived in Bryan, Houston and Austin area.
Billy met and married the love of his life, Judy Siebert on June 9, 1973. They were blessed with two children, Brian and Jill.
Billy was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he served as Lector for the Sunday Mass.
He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Billy had great faith in all aspects of Christianity and believed firmly in the teachings of Jesus Christ.
As a young boy, Billy was probably on the back of a horse before he could walk. He loved riding with his sisters through the green pastures of Chriesman, Texas. He knew no danger while on his horse. He was bucked and thrown, but he always climbed right back on.
Billy attended Caldwell Public Schools and graduated with many honors in 1966.
Upon graduation, he received a four-year scholarship from the University of Texas at Arlington. He was starting center his junior and senior years.
In 1967, the UTA Rebels won the Southerland Conference Championship in the Pecan Bowl, beating North Dakota State 13-0. He won a championship football ring with pride. Billy and his teammates formed a brotherhood of trust and true grit. These friendships have been faithful with Billy often going back to the Arlington area to reunite with his teammates.
Graduating from college, Billy started a career as a teacher and coach. He worked at La Grange, Arlington and Amarillo, Texas.
Billy and Judy moved back to the Caldwell area in May of 1980. Here, he owned Rocking K Ranch Supply in Caldwell, Texas.
He was in business until 1999 supporting the Burleson County Fair, the Athletic Booster Club, Little League baseball and many more.
While working at Rocking K, he spent time in the community with his hobbies, golf, fishing, and hunting as being totally involved with his kids’ activities.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Vernon Rhoton; and infant brother, James; as well as his daughter, Jaime Lyn.
Billy is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Siebert Kornegay; his son, Brian and his wife, Ashley, of Whitehouse, Texas; daughter, Jill Homeyer and her husband, Dennis, of Caldwell, Texas; sisters, Cindy, Sherry Barrett and friend, Johnny Taylor, and Sue Dziobala, and friend, John Miears; grandchildren, Carlson and Blaine McRae, Emry, Easton and Ellie Kornegay, Brendon and Blair Homeyer; and extended family.
