ONESIMO LAZO

Onesimo Lazo passed away in his home in Cooks Point, Texas, on January 29, 2022, at the age of 86.

A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-greatgrandfather, he lived a rich life surrounded by family and full of adventure.

Onesimo was born on February 15, 1935, in the town of La Estancia in Guanajuato, Mexico, to Domingo Lazo and Eufemia Hernandez.

He moved to Texas over 40 years ago, raising his children and settling into life as a dedicated family man, a legendary cowboy and a hard-working farmer.

He worked alongside Rudy Loehr for nearly 50 years and treasured a lifelong friendship with him, his mother Gladys Loehr, and their family.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Maria Ester Rangel Lazo; and by his son, Inocencio Lazo.

He is survived by his children, Isidra Zamarripa, Eufemia Lazo, Irene Lazo, Filimon Lazo, Salvador Lazo, Elisa Lazo, Olga Pena, Maria Lazo, Leonila Lazo, and Manuel Lazo; as well as his 23 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Onesimo was a selftaught man who instilled in his children the same tenacity, diligence, and loyalty with which he lived his life.

He enjoyed traveling and visiting new places with his family.

Onesimo was a devoted member of the Catholic church and a disciple of the cowboy lifestyle.

His pastimes included fishing, watching and playing baseball and roping.

He was a gifted storyteller and often entertained his family with colorful tales of his time riding horses, roping, and adventuring.

Onesimo will be remembered by those close to him as a steadfast, resilient man with a powerful love for God and his family.

A visitation was held on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Hillier of Bryan, from 5-8 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 11 a.m., at Santa Teresa Catholic Church.
