HAYS PERRY

Funeral services for Hays Perry, 90, of Giddings, Texas, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings, Texas, with Rev. Robert Tiner and Vicar Josh Hahn officiating.

Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Hays Thomas Perry was born at home in Burleson County, Texas, on September 7, 1931, to James Thomas “J.T.” Perry and Mary Ann (Brinkman) Perry. He attended school in the Birdsong community of Burleson County.

Hays was baptized at Communion of Liberty Baptist Church in 1949 and was confirmed on December 21, 1954, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Max Studtmann. His confirmation verse was Matthew 28:20, “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

On September 18, 1954, he was married to Helen Wagner at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. Max Studtmann. They were blessed with two sons, Clayton and Kenneth.

Hays began farming when he was a young man before going to work at Superior Dairies as a mechanic.

He then went to work at Alcoa as a pot room operator before eventually owning and operating Perry Plumbing in Giddings for over 45 years.

He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping, playing dominoes, working cattle and watching football games, especially the Giddings Buffaloes and the Texas A&M Aggies.

He especially enjoyed the family get-togethers with the Perry and Wagner families.

Hays passed away the morning of Saturday, February 26, 2022, at his home in Giddings. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.T. “Tom” and Mary Ann Perry; three brothers, Clyde Perry, James Perry, and John W. “Bubba” Perry; four sisters, Viola and Rudolph Milek, Mary Jane and L.D. Poehl, Hermenia and Frank Reininger, and Margie and Wilburn Cowan and; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ben and Lena Wagner; sisters-in-law, Stella Perry and Anna Rose Perry; brother-in-law, Buddy Turner, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Otto and Geneva Lay.

Hays is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Perry of Giddings; two sons, Clayton Perry of San Antonio and Kenneth and Debbie Perry of Giddings; five grandchildren, Sean Perry of Bas trop, Beau and Trina Perry of Austin, Amanda and Shaun Willhite of Virginia, Devon and Katie Perry of Cypress, and Stacey Perry of Houston; eight greatgrandchildren, Tricia Perry of Giddings, Nathan Perry of San Marcos, Trevyn Perry of Bastrop, Madelyn, Vivian and Kimberlyn Willhite of Virginia, and Kaden and Caleb Trahan of Cypress; one great-great-grandson, Cairo Bullard of Giddings; one sister, Alma Turner of Martindale; three brothers, E.D. Perry of Caldwell, Gerald Perry of Houston, and Daniel Perry of Caldwell; five sisters-in-law, Irene Perry of Caldwell, Laura Perry of Dime Box, Rosa Lee Perry of Caldwell, Cedelle and James Schramm of La Grange, and Susan and Harry Dube of Pinehurst; one brother-in-law, Willie and Judy Wagner of La Grange; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were Steve Perry, Mike Perry, Jeffery Perry, Darrell Perry, Preston Perry, Tom Turner, Calvin Lay and Richard Wagner. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Ring the Bell Campaign, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or to the charity of one’s choice.
