Herbert Floyd Ubernosky

Herbert Floyd Ubernosky, 92, of Caldwell,

passed away peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior surrounded by his family on October 24, 2025, at Enhabit Home Health & Hospice in Bryan.

He was born on September 11, 1933, in Frenstat, to parents, Alfred and Louise (Matus) Ubernosky and was baptized into the Catholic faith.

He attended High Prairie School in Burleson County and Caldwell High School.

As a teenager, he went to Houston to sheetrock houses with his older brother Milton until Milton went into the military. Then “Herb,” as most people called him, began work at the Somerville railroad tie plant.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed basic training at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, before being stationed in Worms, Germany, from 1954-1956.

In 1957, Herb began work at the Gulf States Tube plant in Rosenberg.

Herb loved to bowl and was on the Gulf States Tube bowling league team, where he met his future brotherin- law, Alton Juergens, who also bowled on a team for the Rosenberg Fire Department.

He then soon met Erline Juergens, who also bowled in a league in Rosenberg, through mutual friends Florence and Johnnie Orsak, who also worked at the plant with Herb.

On April 30, 1960, Herb and Erline married and began their family on 4th Street in Rosenberg, where they raised their four daughters.

In 1965, they purchased some land in Caldwell (Frenstat community), which would later become their retirement home and the Rockin’ U Ranch.

Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, the family raised and showed Red Poll cattle locally as well as nationwide, making numerous friends throughout the country.

In 1984, Herb, Erline and two daughters, Diane and Sandra, traveled to Germany and visited places where Herb had been when he served in the Army, leaving the other two daughters, Laura and Susan, at home to “man the fort” while the rest were out of the country.

In 1989, Herb retired from Gulf State Tube, Division of Quanex, in Rosenberg, where he dedicated 32 years of his life working three shifts, changing shifts every two weeks.

Herb loved to watch football and baseball, especially the Aggies, Cowboys and Astros, which were among his favorite teams.

He loved to fish, barbecue and visit with his friends around the community regularly, while continuing to ranch, raise cattle, bale hay and be the dad and “Paw-Paw” we could always call on when help was needed.

His fun and loving personality will be missed by many who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Erline Juergens Ubernosky; his parents; and his brothers, Edwin Ubernosky and wife, Barbara, Milton Ubernosky and wife, Helen, and Marvin Ubernosky; brothers-in-law, Alton Juergens, Leon Juergens and wife, Linda, and Wilbur Lee Freudensprung.
