SGT. JAMES MCCOY JR.

A celebration of life for Sergeant James Earl Mc-Coy Jr. will be held at 1 p.m. on July 18, 2026, at Second Street Baptist Church, located at 194 2nd St. in Somerville.

James was born on May 8, 1959, to James Earl McCoy Sr. and Odessa McCoy.

He endured hardships as a child, yet in turmoil even as a teenager, God blessed him with a deep sense of loyalty, duty, honor and protection to his family.

Upon becoming a man, he gave that same loyalty, duty, honor and protection to his community, his neighbors and his country by serving in the United States Armed forces for over 20 years.

He was a well-traveled man and learned to communicate with people of different races, culture, religions and backgrounds.

In all his travels, he did not forget the homeland of his family roots and obtained a peaceful life in Somerville.

James loved the Lord and his relationship with Jesus shined through by his generous, kind and giving nature to his family, friends and community.

He is survived by four siblings; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, spiritual family and other loved ones A committal service will be located at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio at a date to be determined in the future.
