Dennis Woodrow Mikulin

Dennis Wo o drow Mikulin, 50, passed away peacefully in his home on May 25, 2023.

Dennis was born in La Grange, Texas, on August 24, 1972, to Charlotte Spacek Mikulin and Dennis Paul Mikulin.

He was welcomed into their home in Dime Box by his two big sisters Amy and Paula. Dennis was five years old when little sister Jaime joined the family and three years later little brother William would complete the family circle.

Dennis enrolled in kindergarten at the Dime Box School in August 1978.

He continued his education at Dime Box. Dennis was a member of the Dime Box FFA, received his Lone Star Farmer Degree in 1990, and proudly showed Reserve Champion and Grand Champion Broilers at the Lee County Livestock Show in 1987 and 1988. Dennis was also on the student council and in the Beta Club. He participated in basketball, track, and baseball. Dennis graduated from Dime Box High School in May of 1990.

Dennis enrolled at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, and graduated from Blinn in May of 1992. Dennis then was accepted into Sam Houston State University in Huntsville with plans to major in communications. After a year of misery, homesickness and loneliness, Dennis wanted a change. He was accepted into Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He moved in with sister Paula. Dennis graduated from Southwest Texas State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Education in December 1995. Later, Dennis completed his higher education when he earned his Masters of Education from Concordia University in December 2017.

Thus began his 27 years in education and his passion for teaching, coaching, and administration in public schools. Dennis touched the lives of many students and his sense of humor brought a smile to many co-workers.

During his career, Dennis began in Laredo at Prada Elementary, then Los Obispos Middle School and then United South High School. He then taught at Bradley Middle School in San Antonio, Uvalde High School, Del Rio High School, Del Valle Middle School and Dailey Middle School in Del Valle then Dime Box School and was currently an assistant principal at Somerville High School.

In April 2006, Dennis and Gina went on a blind date where they fell in love and knew they couldn’t live without each other. They had actually grown up together only a short distance apart, and both had attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dime Box all their childhood years. On July 31, 2010, Dennis married his best friend, and the love of his life, Gina Zboril. They built a home in Deanville, where they would spend the rest of their lives.

In March of 2017, Dennis and Gina proudly and with much love adopted their son Bryan Betts Mikulin. He will be sadly missed by many.

Dennis was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

He loved working in the yard, growing various types of trees, fishing, feeding the birds, maintaining his Purple Martin houses, barbecuing and riding his John Deere Gator down at the creek bottom land in search of “BigFoot.” Most of all, Dennis loved watching his son, Bryan, participate and excel in school sporting events.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Paul Mikulin; father-in-law, Ernest Zboril; grandparents, John J. Mikulin and Laura Lambrecht Mikulin, and Woodrow Spacek and Georgia Tydlacka Spacek; uncle, James Spacek; and cousin, Sebrina Feuerlein.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 12 years Gina Zboril Mikulin; his son, Bryan Mikulin; his mother, Charlotte Mikulin of Dime Box; siblings,Amy Mikulin of Columbus, Paula (Jorge) Garcia of Laredo, Jaime (Isreal) Aguilar of Dime Box and William (Latosha) Mikulin of Dime Box; mother-inlaw, Carylon Zboril of Deanville; sister-in-law, Donna Zboril of Deanville; and brother-in-law, Carl (Anita) Gammage of Caldwell. Also many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins are left behind to mourn.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Cowen, Jeffrey Cowen, Matthew Cowen, Charles Fritsche, Joe Gonzalez, John Mikulin III, Troy Mikulin, and Jason Mitschke.

Honorary Pallbearers are Gracie Aguilar, Paige Aguilar, Jayla Aguilar, Gabriel Aguilar, Carson Gammage, Collin Gammage, Marlee Gammage, Joseph Mikulin, Michael Mikulin, Roger Garza, Anthony Muzny, Janis Petermanis, Josh Pinkerton, Johnny Reese, Jason Williford, and Tim Tolar.

Visitation will be held on June 4, 2023, from 5-7 p.m.; with Rosary at 6 p.m. at Strickland funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on June 5, 2023, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dime Box.
