LaVerne E. Pivonka, 89, of Houston and most recently College Station, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in College Station.

Funeral services were held for her on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Houston.

Interment was at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.

Mrs. Pivonka was born September 13, 1934, in the Birch Community of Burleson County. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Esther Blinka Eberhardt.

LaVerne grew up in several different communities in her early years, as her parents moved around looking for better farmland -- Birch, Birdsong, San Antonio Prairie, Second Creek, and eventually they ended up purchasing a farm in the Deanville area, where she finished her elementary years of school.

She then graduated from Caldwell High School in the Class of 1953.

After high school she went to Houston to find work, where she ended up spending the rest of her life until she moved in with her daughter and family in College Station summer 2023 due to health issues.

It was in Houston where she met and married her husband of 65 years, Albert H. Pivonka, son of Martin Sr. and Mary Schroeder Pivonka of the High Prairie Community in Burleson County.

He worked in construction work in the beginning, later becoming a Houston Police Officer from, which he retired after some 25 years of service to the city of Houston.

LaVerne worked in the banking industry for the first five years, then worked part-time while raising their two children so that she could be available to attend their school functions as they grew up. About the time they both graduated from high school, she went back to work full-time for Deluxe Check Printers as a Sales Secretary for the next 20 years, and she retired on October 3, 1994.

She loved dancing in her earlier years for entertainment, and she also enjoyed listening to music.

Later in life, she loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.

She also loved traveling, visiting and playing dominoes with their many friends.

Suppose one could say some of the highlights of her married life would be when their children were young and the whole family would take vacations together seeing different parts of the USA. As she would say, “those were the good old days.” LaVerne and her husband continued to travel in the states and abroad as long as they were able. They never tired of seeing new things and places.

LaVerne was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at an early age; first being baptized in the E&R Church in the Birch Community, then being confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Deanville and lastly having been an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Houston since 1965.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert H. Pivonka; and grandson Christopher W. Vest.

Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Rob Supercinski of College Station, Diane and Jerry Vest of Spring Branch, Texas; two granddaughters, Danielle and Justin Kalisek of College Station and Heather and David Muecke of San Antonio; three great-grandsons, Charlie Vest and Jase and Reid Kalisek; two step great-grandchildren, William and Adrianna Muecke and Samantha Muecke; one step great-great-grandson, Wesley Muecke; and sister, Delois Hart.
