Lois Jean Whaley, 91, of Katy died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021.
Jean was born on Aug., 26, 1929, in Ben Arnold, Texas, to Christine Isabel (Briscoe) Spittler and Howard Bascom Spittler.
Lois (known throughout her life as Jean) married James Farley Whaley on Aug. 19, 1949.
Jean enjoyed raising her family and made the most of the numerous moves associated with being the wife of a United States Marine.
She loved to play piano and minister the love of Jesus to her children as well as those in the neighborhood and church. She taught Sunday school, worked in children’s church, and helped with vacation Bible schools.
Jean inherited a love of old gospel hymns from her father and enjoyed singing them in church, around the house, or playing them on piano.
She will always be remembered for her persistent smile, her commitment to and love of her family, her generosity to others, and sacrifices made to be sure her children were well fed and clothed.
After James retired from the military in 1968, they settled in Austin where they created many friendships with fellow attendees of Bethel Assembly of God.
Jean and James relocated to Katy in 1994, following his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service, where they have faithfully attended Family Life Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Bascom Spittler and Christine Isabel (Briscoe) Spittler; and her brothers, Joseph Spittler, Orval (Jay) Spittler, Harvey Spittler, Floyd Spittler, Everett (Raymond) Spittler, William Spittler, Lloyd Spittler, Lane Spittler; and her sisters, Alvas (Spittler) Hatfield/ Nottingham, and Ruth (Spittler) Lovell.
