A funeral service for James Edge, 85, was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
James was born on Sept. 24, 1936, in Grapeland, Texas, to Charles Floyd Edge and Leatha Parker.
He married Bobbie Finley on Sept. 6, 1956. They have been married for 65 years and within those years they had five children, James, Charles, Gary, Daniel, and Vonda.
James enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He did enjoy his hobbies, but his priority had always been his family.
James made a career in the military; he was in the United States Air Force for 23 years.
He taught math for Somerville Junior High School, and later he was principal of Hearne High School and Lyndale High School.
His last job was as the preacher at the Church of Christ in Somerville.
James will be missed by all who had the privilege to have met him.
He died on Aug. 16, 2022, with family by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Edge; four sons; one daughter; one brother; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
