Marilyn Jeanne Robertson Chmelar was born on February 5, 1943, to Marion and Lola Robertson in Washington, Iowa. She was one of six siblings.

She graduated from Washington High School in Washington, Iowa, in 1961.

Marilyn met her future spouse, Franklin Chmelar, in Washington and they were married on August 12, 1961, at the United Methodist Church in Washington.

To this union came four children, Frank Joseph, Robert Dean, Pamela Anne and Mari Lyn.

Marilyn was a loving wife and mother and worked alongside her husband, Franklin, on their family farm in Iowa and then in Texas when they moved to Caldwell in 1975.

She enjoyed quilting and singing, but what Marilyn was most known for was her love and enjoyment of spending time in the kitchen.

Marilyn had the unique capability to master the art of recreating a dish that she found tasteful at a restaurant or party. She could not wait to get home to her kitchen and throw the ingredients together to see if she could match the food she had just thoroughly enjoyed. Many have often said she should have had her own cooking show. Friends and family would often call her for advice on her cooking and baking expertise.

Marilyn was baptized in The Community Moravian Church at Gracehill, Iowa, on June 28, 1953.

At the time of her death, Marilyn was a member of the Caldwell Methodist Church where she sang in the choir in past years.

Prior to her illness, she enjoyed many outings with her church friends. Although she was mainly homebound due to her illness, Marilyn still actively followed all of her grandchildren’s activities.

Marilyn was a great friend to many and had a one of a kind, joyful laugh that was contagious to all. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Chmelar; her son, Frankie Joe Chmelar; her parents, Marion and Lola Robertson; and her brothers, Marion “Jr.” Robertson and Larry Robertson.

Marilyn is survived by a son, Robert Dean Chmelar and wife, Shelly, of Caldwell, Texas; two daughters, Pamela Anne Chmelar of College Station, and Mari Lyn Dodd and husband, Craig, of Charlotte, North Carolina; two brothers, John Robertson and wife, Shirley, of Iowa, Donald Robertson and wife, Beverly, of Iowa; and a sister, Anne Helmich and husband, Jim, of Missouri; six grandchildren, Pamela Cheatham and husband, Steven, Maelyn Stevenson and husband, Jared, Loren Morse and husband, Burtis, Kristi Chmelar, Kameron Horras and Karsen Dodd; and by seven great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers are Robert Chmelar, Craig Dodd, Kameron Horras, Steven Cheatham, Jared Stevenson and Burtis Morse. Honorary pallbearer is Karsen Dodd.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, serving our area: 5433 Westheimer Rd. 300, Houston, Texas 77056.
