Scarmardo wins girls breakaway title at National Junior High Finals Rodeo

Guiliana Scarmardo, an 11-year-old from Caldwell, brought home the world champion title in the girls breakaway at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR), her aggregate time of 7.88 seconds across three rounds securing the top position in a field of 119 competitors.

Locals win Open Horse Show Association world titles

Local equestrians brought several wins home to the county in the 2026 Open Horse Show Association’s (OHSA) Virtual World Show.Held annually since 2020, this year’s event drew over 600 entries from across the country -- the largest in the show’s history.

A group of 10 local student-athletes from Snook and Somerville attended the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Basketball Camp of Champs at Blinn College over June 7-9.The camp highlighted fundamental drills, competitions and league games.

Somerville High School senior outfielder Kyle Brooks has been named to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association’s All State Second Team.Brooks was a standout multi-sport player for the Yeguas his entire career and was also named to the All District 26-2A First Team as an outfielder.
