Antonia Hernandez Mendez, 91, of Caldwell, went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, June 7, 2024, in Bryan, Texas, with her loving family by her side.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Caldwell, Texas. Father Melvin Dornak was the Celebrant.
The Interment followed in the church cemetery.
The family received guests on Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for visitation and the Holy Rosary was recited at 6:00 p.m., all at Strickland Funeral Home Caldwell, Texas.
Antonia was born November 7, 1932, in Caldwell, Texas, to parents, Zacaries O. Hernandez and Liboria (Jimenez) Hernandez.
She married Lucio Mendez, and this union was blessed with five children, Lucio Jr., Dolores, Sylvia, Rosemary and Linda.
Antonia loved her family dearly, especially the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the great-great-grandchildren.
She was a lifelong devoted member of St. Mary’s Our Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church and Altar Society.
She loved being a mother and a cook, where the family enjoyed eating her beans and tortillas.
She was a talented gardener with beautiful roses.
Preceding Mrs. Mendez are her parents, Zacaries and Liboria Hernandez; her husband, Lucio Mendez Sr.; five brothers, Nick, Sam, Cleto, Chebo Hernandez as well as an infant brother; and a son-in-law, Gary Hott.
She is survived by her loving family: son, Lucio Mendez Jr. of the Meadows Place, Texas; four daughters, Dolores Hott, Sylvia Pitts and husband, Douglas, Rosemary Rodriguez and husband, Jaime, all of Caldwell, Texas, Linda Ford and husband, Charles, of Wheelock, Texas; two brothers, Jack Hernandez and wife, Dora, of College Station, Texas, and John Hernandez of Austin, Texas; and one sister, Angela Vasquez and husband, Albert, of Chriesman, Texas; six grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; also by numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and her friends and church families.
