We’ve cast our lines into the heavens, folks, because Homer “Bimbo” Franks, the man who could out-fish, out-dance, and out-build just about anyone has reeled in his final catch.
On August 2, 2024, at the golden age of 68, Bimbo hung up his tool belt, kicked off his dancing boots, and set sail for that big fishing tournament in the sky.
Born on July 6, 1956, in Bryan, Texas, Bimbo was known for his fun, kind, caring, and loving nature.
He attended Scarborough High School and later graduated from Caldwell High School in 1975.
Bimbo began his career working alongside his father, Homer Franks, in contract carpentry throughout Burleson and Brazos counties. Bimbo loved working with his dad and later kept the family business, Franks Plastics, going with his brothers until 2008. His passion for craftsmanship was evident as he continued to work in carpentry for many years afterwards.
On his free time, you could find him with a fishing rod in one and a cold drink in the other, claiming the title of the unofficial ‘Fish Whisperer’ at Port O’Connor.
He also enjoyed spending quality time with his sons and family, playing dominoes, and country dancing.
Bimbo’s greatest pride was in his family. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter with his beloved wife, Marilyn Franks; his sons, Jarrod (Andrew) and Josh (Danica) Franks; siblings, Teresa Franks, James Alan Franks, Nancy Sebesta, and Bobby Franks. He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Jeremy, Shawn, Jason (Savannah), Stephen (Amber), Sarah (Zach), Jessica (Jesus); eight grandchildren who will miss his epic fish tales; and one greatgrandchild who will learn of his great adventures.
His memories, adventures, inside jokes and nicknames will hold special places in their hearts. His nieces and nephews, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends would agree he had a knack for making friends easily and making all friends feel like his best friend.
Joining the great family reunion in the sky, Bimbo was welcomed by his parents, Homer and Jean Franks, and his sister, Paige Bamberg, waiting for him at the Door to Heaven was his granny Carter and nephew Ethan, ready for their next fishing trip.
Tip your hats and shine your boots for a Celebration of Life at the Cowboy Church in Caldwell, Texas, on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. The shindig’s at 300 County Road 169, Caldwell, Texas 77836.
So here’s to Bimbo Franks -- a man who showed us that life’s a dance you learn as you go, and sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow. His memory will be a keepsake from which we’ll never part. God has him in His embrace, but we have him in our hearts... and our fish stories.
