Wayne Lamar Kristof

Wayne Lamar Kristof, 77, of Caldwell, Texas, passed away at his residence on Monday, November 13, 2023.

A graveside service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.

Wayne Lamar Kristof was born on November 24, 1945, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, Texas.

Lamar grew up in Deanville, Texas, and loved to build model airplanes and ride his motorbike.

School was always easy for him, and with his dad as his teacher, he learned early on that he had a ‘knack’ for math.

Lamar graduated from Caldwell High School in 1964, graduating third in his class and winning the Math Award. He attended the University of Texas in Austin, receiving a BA in Math in 1969.

Lamar worked as an engineer for Southwestern Bell in San Antonio, a buyer for 7-Eleven’s Division office in Austin, and an Algebra teacher for Blinn College in Bryan, Texas.

Following bypass surgery in 2003, he couldn’t do much physical activity and the riding mower kept him able to “keep going.”

During his marriage to Genevia, he spent over 2,000 hours on his riding mower.

Throughout his adult life, Lamar enjoyed auto mechanics -- he loved to fix things. His favorite car was his 1967 Firebird 400.

When he was 22 years old, he opened the headers and took his almost 60-year-old father for a ride, hoping to impress him as he ‘went through the gears.’ He later confessed that his dad was sure he’d lost his mind!

Lamar also loved to sing, leading the congregation in the singing of hymns was dear to his heart. Also making presentations of Southern Gospel Music with Ronnie and Kelly Pampel were very special to him.

He leaves behind his wife, Genevia, who ‘saved his life’. Broke and busted in 1993, she took a chance and married this broken man. With her unwavering support, he was able to begin a third career and thwart the devil’s constant efforts to destroy him. He also leaves a family who has loved him through it all.

Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, Norma and Dee Kristof; James Aaron Kristof (baby); and brother-inlaw, Larry Lee Ripple.

He is survived by his current wife, Genevia Ann (Flippin); two exwives, Diane (Lippe) Gray and Barbara Ann (Brooks); three children, Matthew Kristof and wife, Maia, of Moline, Illinois, Melanie Diane (Kristof) Young, and Sommerly Brooke Kristof Hegar of Leander, Texas; five grandchildren, Austin Kristof of Moline, Illinois, Aaron and wife, Zelinda, of Moline, Illinois, Emilie and husband, Dylon, of San Angelo, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Gio and Allison. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Lou (Kristof) Ripple of Claude, Texas; a niece, Donna Lynn (Ripple) Courville of Rocklin, California; and greatniece, Samantha, and great-nephew, Alex, also of Rocklin. His extended family includes Bobby Lee, his wife, Erin, and two children, Garlene and Nathan Flippin, and Amanda (Flippin) Hendricks, her husband, Dan, and three children, Justin, Abby and Rachel.
