Earl H. Meyer, 91, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 18, 2023.
A public visitation was held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the chapel at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.
Interment will be at a later date in Rusk, Texas.
Earl was born in Austin County on August 17, 1932, and grew up on the family farm in the New Ulm-Industry vicinity.
He graduated from Columbus High School at 16 years old, and was awarded a football scholarship to Blinn Jr. College in Brenham.
Upon completion at Blinn, he was awarded yet another football scholarship. This time, he played football at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas.
At S.F.A., Earl met, fell in love and married Jenny Jared.
He went on to earn his Bachelor and Master’s Degree there, including his Administrator’s Certificate.
Earl was a football and track coach for many years, coaching in Van, Kemp, and Price, Texas.
In Price, Texas, he became the high school principal as well as school superintendent.
In 1971, Earl and family moved to Caldwell, Texas, where he served as high school principal until 1990.
Upon retiring, he served 12 years as city judge.
Earl’s favorite pasttimes were deer, dove and quail hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends and family.
Many great times were spent at Brewers,’ a local meeting place.
He also spent over 50 years as an active member of the Caldwell Lion’s Club.
Earl is survived by his wife, Jenny; his daughters, Debbie Meyer Yarborough, and Lana Meyer Glidewell and husband, Peter; granddaughters, Brittany Ofczarzak and husband, Erin, Ashley Weeks, Jessica Rissie Russell and husband, Johnathan, Amanda Rissie Quinn and husband, Tyler, and Catherine Rissie. Earl’s great-grandsons Emory and Eli Ofczarzak. Other greatgrandchildren include, Thomas, Jacob and Emily Russell as well as Harrison and Cadence Quinn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caldwell Methodist Church, the Aggieland Humane Society or Texas Lions Camp.
