Alice Ruth Sebesta Chlapek went to be with her Lord on July 20, 2026, at the age of 91.
Alice was born at the family home in Caldwell, on December 16, 1934, to Willie Joe and Lydia Marie Dusek Sebesta.
She attended public schools in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1953.
She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College (Texas State University) graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught 3rd grade for 19 years in the Pasadena Independent School District.
Alice met the love of her life, Marvin James Chlapek, at the Dime Box Brethren Church on May 29,1955. After a twoyear courtship, they married on June 8, 1957, at the Caldwell Brethren Church.
They were blessed with one daughter, Darla Kay. Alice and Marvin resided in Pasadena for 34 years and Houston for 18 years before moving to Caldwell in 2009.
Alice loved her family and was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Sydney and Brady.
She was an excellent cook and hostess, always looking forward to family gatherings.
Alice was an accomplished musician, playing the piano and organ. She began playing for church and weddings at the age of 12 and continued her music ministry for an additional 70 years.
She served as the musician for the churches where they worshipped throughout the years, most recently New Tabor Brethren Church. She also assisted with music at denominational church gatherings.
Alice and Marvin enjoyed traveling and especially going to Branson, Missouri, usually inviting family or friends to join them. Many wonderful memories were made there. Another highlight of their travels was a trip to the Czech Republic to visit the homeland of their ancestors.
Alice loved plants and flowers. She had a green thumb and a beautiful yard, and enjoyed helping Marvin with the yardwork.
Christmas was one of Alice’s favorite holidays. She loved decorating the house and baking numerous treats to share with her family and friends. Family Christmas gatherings consisted of plenty of food, fun, andAlice and her sister, Linda, playing piano and organ for family Christmas carol sing-a-longs.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and brothers-inlaw, Josephine and Johnny Springer and Linda and Frank Simcik; brother and sister-in-law, Billy Joe and Valerie Sebesta; brother-in-law, Calvin Chlapek; and nephews, Charles Sebesta and Chris Chlapek.
Alice is survived by her husband of 69 years, Marvin Chlapek; daughter, Darla Marek and husband, Scott, of Keller; and two grandchildren, Sydney Marek and Brady Marek. She is also survived by sister- in-law, Joyce Chlapek; and a niece and several nephews; as well as other family and friends.
Pallbearers were Scott Marek, Sydney Marek, Brady Marek, Bruce Simcik, Brad Simcik and Matt Chlapek.
Honorary pallbearers were Wesley Springer, Bill Sebesta and Betsy Wilde.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.
Alice was laid to rest at Masonic Cemetery in Caldwell.
