Meckel memorialized with Blinn Nurses on Horses Scholarship

Miranda Mitchell Meckel loved horses, helping others, and nursing.A new Blinn College endowed scholarship established in her memory honors all three.Meckel, a 2019 graduate of Blinn’s Associate Degree Nursing Program, passed away in a December 2021 traffic accident at age 26.

Grant funding awarded for Dabney Hill Lodge preservation

The Texas Historical Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant toward preservation efforts for the 1890s Masonic Lodge building at Dabney Hill Freedom Colony near Snook.In addition, Preservation Texas has provided a $5,000 matching grant.

Man charged in assault on pregnant woman

A 28-year-old Caldwell man was arrested on Saturday, June 22, on a charge of assault causing bodily injury against a pregnant woman in connection with a June 19 incident in the 900 block of Yaupon Drive at Cade Lake Subdivision.

Somerville man dies in accident in Grimes Co.

A Somerville man died on Tuesday, June 18, in a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 6 in Grimes County, and DPS troopers are investigating.Derrick Coleman, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene by Grimes County Justice of the Peace Mark Laughlin.The accident occurred at 11:18 a.m.

Snook woman hurt in rollover crash on PR 57

A Snook woman was injured on Wednesday afternoon, June 19, in a car rollover accident off Park Road 57, landing upside down and under water in a nearby creek river bed, and transported to a Bryan hospital.
