Dr. Wanda Ann Collins

Services for Dr. Wanda Ann Collins, 71, formerly of Lyons, Texas, will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 173 F.M. 60, Lyons, Texas, with Pastor Basil Lister, Officiating.

Burial will follow in Lyons Community Cemetery, Lyons, Texas.

Dr. Wanda Ann Collins was born on May 3, 1953, to Roosevelt Moore and Carrie Barrett in Lyons, Texas.

She attended Emmitt J. Scott Elementary School and Somerville Junior and Senior High schools.

She studied in the field of education at Prairie View A&M University and then began her career as a teacher at Somerville Elementary School.

Years later she returned to further her education where she received her Master’s in Education Administration.

Upon receiving her Master’s, she was recruited to Port St. Lucie, Florida, where she served as a teacher, assistant principal and principal for 30 years.

During that time, she received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership Administration from Nova Southeastern University.

Wanda was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she accepted Christ under the leadership of Pastor Howard L. Munson.

She also attended Miracle Prayer Temple in Fort Pierce, Florida, under the leadership of Pastor James Brown.

Before her passing, Wanda was a member of Grace Baptist under the leadership of William F. Richardson III.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carrie Barrett and Roosevelt Moore; her fiancé, ST Andrews; her brothers, Charles Booker, James Billy Booker, Larry Barrett, Marvin Barrett, Anthony Woodfork, and Herman Moore; her sisters, Ruth Steele, Gloria Hines, Ivy Dell White, Vergie Faye Brooks, and Arnel Barrett; her beautiful granddaughter, Brittany Dominique Cline.

Survivors are three daughters, Christie Rodriguez (Brandon), Angie Simon (Brian), and LeTasha Collins; her six grandchildren, Maleek Rodriguez, Joshua Simon, Serenity Simon, Emily Rodriguez, Peyton Simon, Asa Simon; her grand pup, Trixie Ann; her brothers, Donnell Barrett of Lyons, Texas, and Danny Woodfork of Somerville, Texas; and a host of relatives and friends.
