Howard liked to watch football and old western movies whenever he had the chance. He enjoyed traveling to Missouri and putting corn out for the wild squirrels in his back yard. He loved what would come to be his dogs, Blackie and Tiny, and above all he loved his great-granddaughter, Lilynn Mansfield.
Howard passed away the evening of Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in College Station, Texas. A celebration of life for Howard Smith, 83, of Caldwell, Texas, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on October 7, 2023, at the Lincoln Community Hall in Lincoln, Texas.
Howard Dale Smith was born on March 15, 1940, to Owen and Florence (Flood) Smith in Lamesa, Texas.
Howard worked for many years in the oil industry doing many different things over the years.
He was a family man who always enjoyed having breakfast with his family around him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Smith; his parents, Owen and Florence Smith; one son, Howard Dale Smith Jr.; one brother, Edgar Frank Smith; one sister- in-law, Fannie Mae Smith; one grandson, Kevin Wayne Smith; one granddaughter, Amanda Renee Smith; and one niece, Shawna Rose Smith.
Howard is survived by his children, Frankie and wife, Pam Smith, of Caldwell, Michael Lee and wife, Gabriela Smith, of Katy; two step-daughters, Sherry Lyn and husband, Tim Taylor, of Oklahoma, Terry Evelynn Clark of Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, Misty Smith of Arkansas, Kelly White of Arkansas, Michael Smith of Arkansas, Cory Smith of Arkansas, Mark Smith of Brenham, Steven Smith of Chappell Hill, Troy Smith of Caldwell, Michael Gonzales of College Station, Adam Mitschke of Caldwell, Coo p e r St u a r t o f Caldwell, Krystal Stuart of Caldwell, Daniel Dallas Smith of Katy, and Addyson Price of Spring; eighteen greatgrandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial may be made to the Ronald Mc-Donald House or to the Charity of one’s choice.
