James T. Ables

Funeral services for James T. Ables, 96, of Sugarland, Texas, were held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas.

J.T. was born on Feb. 29, 1928, in Kenedy, Texas, to Leonard Caswell Ables and Effie Mae (Pullin) Ables.

Like many of his era, he grew up poor in financial terms and rich in love.

There he worked as a cowboy, farmer/rancher, roughneck, plant worker, and eventually a pipeline worker where he had a 27-year career with Valero, retiring in 1990.

J.T. and his wife, Hattie, loved to garden, travel, hunt, and fish and they had a great time sharing those interests together for nearly 30 years after retirement.

He was a great husband to his wife, father to his children, and friend to all who knew him.

Mr. Ables died on May 14, 2024, in Sugarland.

He is survived by two brothers; one sister; one daughter; one son-in-law; three sons; two daughters- in-law; four grandchildren; and two greatgranddaughters.
