Federal cuts affect local food programs

Changes are coming to local food pantries, a result of federal cuts in food programs.Theresa Mangapora, executive director of the Brazos Valley Food Bank (BVFB), said that that while food banks are experiencing more demand than ever, they are also losing funding to some programs.

Southern Plainsmen to perform at Lone Oak

Speckman graduates A&M Corpus Christi

Former Caldwell resident Frances Ann Speckman of Bryan recently received her Bachelor of Science degree in business management-accounting from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.She g r e w u p in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1991.

Local students graduate from UT at Austin

Two local students recently graduated from The University of Texas at Austin as part of the spring 2025 class.The commencement ceremony was held on May 10.Taylor Sheridan, the creative force behind television blockbusters such as “Yellowstone” and “Landman,” was the featured commencement speaker.

The Southern Gospel group, The Southern Plainsmen, will be in concert on Saturday, May 31, at 5 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Caldwell.The concert is free, and a love offering will be received.

F.M. 60 widening project now complete

The long-awaited F.M. 60 widening project, making the roadway a four-lane, divided highway from State Highway 36 to the Brazos County line, is now complete.Local leaders are celebrating the milestone as one of the county’s biggest traffic developments of the last three decades.
