VFW meetingCaldwell’s VFW Post 4458 and its Auxiliary will meet on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the VFW Hall on State Highway 36 South.There will be a catered meal at 6 p.m., honoring the winners of the local Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy contests and the selected Teacher of the Year.

Chocolate, Champagne, Cake Walk this Saturday

The Friends of Caldwell Main Street will host their annual Chocolate, Champagne and Cake Walk on Saturday, Feb. 14, in downtown Caldwell.The event will kick off at 10 a.m. with registration in front of the city hall, on Echols Street, and include shopping, beverages and, of course, chocolate.

County awards CR 119 bridge projects contract

Commissioners awarded a contract to Wakefield Bridge of Wharton for the upcoming County Road 119 projects, including the repair of the Davidson Creek Bridge and the replacement of the Davidson Creek Relief Bridge.

City, school elections filings end Friday

Those wishing to file for a position on local city councils and school boards have until this Friday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m.The election for those city council and school board positions will be Saturday, May 2.Caldwell City Council will have two seats up for election: those held by Jessie Enrique, Jr.

Man charged in elderly injury

A Somerville area man was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 1, on an injury to an elderly individual charge after an incident on County Road 278.Cedric Franklin Kaili Calles, 38, was charged and is now free on $4,000 bond, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.

Woman charged in unauthorized use of truck

A Caldwell woman was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 27, on a felony charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in connection with a pickup truck and trailer taken on State Highway 36, just south of Caldwell.

New Sheriff’s Posse organized in Burleson Co.

Local residents and the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office are launching a non-profit Burleson County Sheriff’s Posse to help encourage local youth to participate in rodeo and to help the sheriff’s office with fund raising.
