Grand Jury returns 7 felony indictments

The Burleson County Grand Jury met in regular session on Thursday, Oct. 16, and returned seven felony indictments.Only the names of those arrested are released and include: * Mary Nicole Hamilton, 38, of Caldwell; tamper/fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair -- third degree felony.

Quincy Berka remembered: A full life celebrated

Quincy Berka was a man of many talents with lots of friends.Sounds like a life worth living.In addition to his considerable skills as a guitarist and as a mechanic, Berka held one other important distinction.He was Burleson County’s last surviving World War II veteran.

Local farm and ranch opens storefront along FM 2000

Boniol Farm and Ranch opened its new storefront at 10990 FM 2000 in Caldwell on Saturday, Nov. 1.The farm, owned by Eric and Jennifer Boniol, was established in 2013 when the family moved to Caldwell and achieved its long awaited dream of an on-site permanent storefront this fall.

Sheriff’s Office hosts fraud awareness lunch and learn

The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office partnered with Citizens State Bank to offer a cybersecurity and fraud awareness “lunch and learn” on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the Yegua Center.

5 Sundays In FebruaryFor the first time in 40 years and for the last time for 28 more years there will be five Sundays in February this year. Church deacons and ushers will have an opportunity to pass the collection plate five times in one month, and that month the shortest in the whole year.

SAAM House plans expansion, open house

The Somerville Area Assistance Ministries (SAAM) House is approaching its 30th anniversary, and they are planning an expansion to accommodate a growing demand for assistance to needy residents.In addition, they have scheduled an open house for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, with refreshments served.

Lyons Christmas Cottage The Lyons EEA will be holding its annual Christmas Cottage on Nov. 7-8 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, located at 6670 State Highway 36 in Caldwell.There will be handcrafted holiday items and complimentary gingerbread cookies and wassail.

Body of missing man recovered

The body of a Burleson County man missing since Sunday, Oct. 12, was found on Friday morning, Oct. 31, in a field off County Road 410 in the Frenstat area, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine his cause of death.No foul play is suspected in the death of Dennis Leon (D.L.) Krueger Jr.
