The Somerville City Council was scheduled to formally approve a contract for a July 4 fireworks display at Welch Park at its Tuesday, July 9, meeting.
The council rejected the contract at its June 11 meeting after initially deadlocking in a 2-2 vote over the costs.
Mayor Tommy Thompson recommended rejecting the contract and said he would pay for the fireworks display himself.
