Funeral Mass for Alton Edward Ofczarzak Sr., 87, of Somerville was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat.
Burial followed at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Frenstat.
Visitation was held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday Feb. 21, 2021, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, with Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m.
Mr. Ofczarzak died on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, at his home in Somerville.
Alton (aka “Uncle Baby”, aka “Pops”) was born on Jan. 20, 1934, at home in Birch to Vince Paul Ofczarzak and Julia Theresa (Popek) Ofczarzak.
At the age of 20, he married the love of his life, Janette Lee Merritt, on Nov. 13, 1954, in Ellisville, Miss. He was a devoted husband and companion for 56 years, and had nine children with Janette.
Alton attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat.
He was a gifted carpenter, craftsman and homebuilder by trade.
He loved spending time with family and friends.
His passions included hunting and fishing, especially at the coast and Lake Somerville, and playing cards and slots at the casino.
Some of his favorite times were playing cards and dominoes with his family.
He also loved buying scratch off and lotto tickets.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janette Lee (Merritt) Ofczarzak; his son, Bart Ofczarzak; his son-in-law, Donald Muenzler; his daughterin-law, Theresa Jo Ofczarzak; his siblings, Bernard Ofczarzak and wife, Marcella; Esther Ofczarzak Keese and husband, Alton, and Julia Ofczarzak Houston and husband, Aubrey, Helen Ofczarzak Poehl-Drachenberg and first husband, Theadfield Poehl and second husband, Dayton Drachenberg, Daniel Ofczarzak and wife, Doris, Jimmie Ofczarzak and wife, Mary, Ernest Ofczarzak, and Lourine Ofczarzak Seidler and husband, James; and his brothers-in-law, Theodore Marek, and Pete Matelski.
Alton is survived by his children, Eva Muenzler, Alton E. Ofczarzak II, Mark Ofczarzak and wife, Janice, Lisa Williams and husband, Paul, Vincent Ofczarzak, Craig Ofczarzak, Angela Barnett, and Carl Ofczarzak; his sister, Magdalene Margaret (Jean) Matelski; sisterin-law, Vlasta (Beran) Ofczarzak; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Pooch, companion and best friend.
