Arvell Poehl, of Caldwell, Texas passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, Texas.

A time for visitation with family and friends was held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A celebration of Arvell’s life was held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell followed by interment and graveside service at Masonic Cemetery. Arvell was born on February 5, 1936, in Burleson County, toArnold Poehl and Bertha Meier.

During his childhood years he attended schools in the communities of Birch, Second Creek and Prairie Dale.

At a young age he attended Sunday school and church at the Birch Lutheran Church where he also professed and strengthened his faith through the rite of confirmation. He later joined the Caldwell Brethren Church where he humbly served as an active member for the remainder of his earthly life.

Arvell loved going to dances throughout his life, so it comes as no surprise that he met the lady who would become his wife at a dance at Zgabay’s Ranch in Deanville, Texas, on Easter Sunday of 1962. On February 6, 1965, Arvell married Bettie Hruska, and over the next 58 years built a loving and wonderful life together which also included the birth of their only son, Terry Lee Poehl, in 1971.

During his adult years, Arvell selflessly provided for his family through employment at the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Piwonka’s Grocery (25 years), S&M Grocery (15 years), and Dave and Jerry’s Beverage Barn and Catering (10 years).

Those who had the honor of knowing Arvell knew he was the most kind, hardworking, and honest man you could ever meet in this world. Throughout his life he enjoyed many different activities such as riding and taking care of his horses, gardening, farming with his tractors, and playing drums with numerous other local bands and musicians.

Arvell is survived by his loving wife, Bettie; their son, Dr. Terry Lee Poehl, Ph.D. and wife, Monica; grandson, Austin Grimes and his wife, Madison; and granddaughter, Taylor Farrar and her husband, Austin; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew Grimes, Scott Grimes, and Lainey Farrar. Arvell is also survived by his two sisters, Maedell Hardy (and her husband, James) and Darlene Wolbrueck (and her husband, Collin); and numerous nephews, nieces and dear friends.

Arvell was preceded in death by his parents; and his younger brother, Lloyd Poehl.

Arvell will always be remembered and profoundly missed by all those who had the honor of knowing him during his earthly life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Caldwell Brethren Church, 401 S. Main St., Caldwell, Texas 77836 or to Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 W. 26th St., Bryan, Texas 77803.
