The third oldest of eight was born to Elder Gus William and Marie Henrietta (Mamie) Klagman Burttschell in Dime Box, Texas, on June 2, 1933. She was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Dime Box on April 12, 1936. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on May 18, 1947, by Rev. W.K. Doege at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dime Box.
She met the love of her life, Jimmie Franklin Brinkman of Deanville at a dance at the Deanville Hall. They married on June 9, 1951, at Martin Luther Church in Giddings. They lived their entire life in Deanville, where they operated the cotton gin and a house moving-leveling business. Betty and Jim were blessed with two daughters, Michelle, and Kelly. Around 1968, once their daughters were in school, Betty worked for Vychopen’s Dry Goods store. In 1969 she began work at the First State Bank of Deanville as bookkeeper, teller, and Board of Directors Secretary. Betty proudly served the community bank for 20 years as Vice President and Cashier. In 1989 the bank was sold to Citizens State Bank of Somerville, and she continued her service in the bank as Assistant Vice President and Assistant Branch Manager until her retirement in 2001. Betty lovingly served the locally owned bank more than 30 years.
She was preceded in death by parents, Elder and Mamie Burttschell; sisters, June Leite and husband, Valmore (Put) Leite, and Bernell Markert and husband, Ray Markert; brothers, John Burttschell and wife, Helen, and Robert Burttschell; parents-in-law, Gus and Emma (Fojtik) Brinkman.
