Beverly Kay (Steck) Barfield passed away on January 24, 2023, in the company of her husband, Carl.
Beverly was born in Bryan, Texas, on December 18, 1953, to Franklin and Ruby Steck.
She grew up with a large, loving family on her family’s farm just outside of Caldwell.
Beverly attended Caldwell High School and graduated with the Class of ‘72.
She treasured those friendships and maint ained those ties throughout her life.
She was active in band and church and was the Pianist at Cooks Point Methodist Church throughout her high school and college years. Some of her fondest memories were of playing piano in church alongside her cousin, Tommy Homeyer, who played the organ.
Beverly earned her bachelor’s degree in English at Texas A&M University, where she also met Carl Barfield while he was a doctoral student.
The two married on July 31, 1976, at Cooks Point United Method-
ist Church in Beverly’s hometown before moving to Gainesville, Florida.
Over the next 46 years, Beverly raised a family, worked as an accountant, and remained active in her community through her involvement with school PTA, the Gainesville Woman’s Club, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and her children’s many sports and band activities.
She was a loving, caring person who enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing piano.
In retirement, Beverly volunteered regularly at Gainesville’s Haven Attic Resale Store.
Her creativity in making wreaths with donated items raised a considerable amount of money for the Hospice Program in Gainesville.
Her family is grateful to the wonderful people at Haven Hospice for their support and comfort during Beverly’s final days.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Carl Barfield, of Gainesville; son, Christopher Barfield, his wife, Kate, and their children, Ryan and Cora, of Davie, Florida; son, Jonathan Barfield, of Brooksville, Florida; and brother, Allen Steck and his wife, Debbie, of Caldwell, Texas. She also leaves behind her aunt, Hilda Weeber; and numerous cousins throughout the area.
A gathering of friends and family will be held in Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the Barfield family asks that donations be made in memory of Beverly Barfield to Haven Hospice or The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD).
