Funeral services were held on Monday, February 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Phillips & Luckey chapel followed by burial at the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.
Darlene was born on September 27, 1944, at home in the rural Deanville area to Harry and Delia Allcorn Kubecka. She was one of three siblings.
She attended grade school in Deanville and attended Caldwell High School as a member of the class of 1963.
Darlene met the love of her life, Tommy Ryan, at the Deanville Sons of Herman Hall in October of 1958. They were married in Bryan, Texas, on March 16, 1960, prior to Tommy leaving for the army.
Except for Tommy’s army training period, they were inseparable for the remainder of their marriage of 63 years. They even spent two years together in Germany while he was stationed there.
Darlene’s first job was working in the cosmetics department of Woolworth’s in downtown Bryan. Later she was employed as the bookkeeper at Ryan Printing in Bryan. After the business was sold she worked at the Figure Salon/ Shapeway Fitness Club, also in Bryan for fifteen years. She then went on to work for the Association of Former Students at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where she served as a receptionist for fifteen years. Darlene retired from the Association in 2005.
Darlene assisted her husband with all the ranking chores.
Darlene’s hobbies included dancing, cooking, gardening, hunting and camping in the Hill Country. She loved playing softball and watching Aggie Football and Basketball.
At an early age, Darlene was baptized at the First Assembly of God church in Second Creek, Texas. Later she became a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Caldwell.
Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. She was close to all of her family on both the Kubecka and Allcorn sides of the family and was proud of her heritage, that of her great-grandfather, Elijah Allcorn, being a member of Stephen F. Austin’s old 300 original Texas settlers.
Darlene was easy to talk to and was a favorite with all her coworkers. Her particularly close friends were Franklin and Betty Gold and Robert and Pauline Robertson.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Delia Allcorn Kubecka; her brother, Kenneth Kubecka; and her mother-in-law, Jewel Green Rosas.
