EDWARD HOMEYER

Graveside service for Edward Otto Homeyer, 94, of Caldwell, are set for 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at Elizabeth Lutheran Cemetery, located at Hwy. 21 E. Caldwell, Texas, with Pastors David Johnson and Terry Bage officiating.

Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mr. Homeyer transitioned to his heavenly home on Friday, April 2, 2021, surrounded by his family and caregivers.

Edward Otto Homeyer was born on July 14, 1926, to Otto and Bertha Homeyer in Caldwell, Texas.

He married the love of his life, Johnnie Ruth Mrnusik on June 27, 1948, at the Brethren Church in Caldwell.

Edward’s life was centered around his faith and his Heavenly Father. He loved the Lord first and foremost.

Upon his graduation from Caldwell High School, he joined the United States Navy.

Edward was stationed at a San Diego Air Base in California, serving in World War II. His deployment sent him to Guam and Saipan.

He enjoyed his time as a radioman on a World War II torpedo bomber and served his country proudly for four years.

At the end of his service, he returned home to his dream of farming. He farmed part-time and operated Humble gas station on Highway 36.

He was gifted with the ability of woodworking and was employed by Arthur Pape as a carpenter.

The final chapter came when he was able to go back to full-time farming.

Edward and Johnnie Ruth worked hard together farming, raising chickens, hogs, and cattle, and gardening.

They enjoyed spending time together working and raising their children and grandchildren.

Barney, his son, later joined him in the farming business known as B&E Homeyer.

During Edward’s life he was a part of the Burleson county fair Association, an honorary American Chapter Farmer, volunteer for the Caldwell Fire Department, senior citizen of the year, member of the New Tabor Brethren Church, and former member of the Elizabeth Lutheran Church.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Johnnie Ruth Homeyer.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Barney and Cathy Homeyer of Caldwell; his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Paul Skrabanek of Caldwell; his sister, Evelyn McDonald of Waco; his grandchildren, Stephen and wife, Dana Skrabanek, Tiffany and husband, Kit Parkin, Dennis and wife, Jill Homeyer, and Catie and husband, Sidney Dromgoole; his great-grandchildren, Brenden and Blair Homeyer, Blaine and Carson McRae, Austin Dromgoole, Brynleigh and Carson Parkin, and Peyton Skrabanek; his nephews and niece, Jerry and Anne McDonald, Rodney and Cheryl McDonald, and Sandra and Rod Lambes; along with great-nieces and great-nephew; and two very special friends he truly enjoyed, Dottie and Blackie, his dogs.

Pallbearers will be Larry Hein, Albert Surovik, Jeff Garbs, John Hoffman, Ted Dusek, and Dick Dusek.

Acting as Honorary Pallbearers will be Wendy Castaneda, Cynthia Schultz, and grandchildren, Stephen Skrabanek, Tiffany Parkin, Dennis Homeyer, and Catie Dromgoole.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to New Tabor Brethren Church, Elizabeth Lutheran Church, and Traditions Hospice.
