Evelyn Joyce Mitchell

Evelyn Joyce Mitchell, of Caldwell passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

Visitation was held on Monday September 12, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Caldwell, Texas, Rick Mitchell offi ciating.

Burial followed at Masonic Cemetery.

Evelyn Joyce Mitchell, was born on October 28, 1934, to Leonard and Mildred Moore in Lamesa, Texas

Joyce met Don Mitchell in Lamesa,Texas. Charles Don Mitchell and Evelyn Joyce Moore were married on October 29, 1951, in Lamesa, Texas. To this union came three children, Ricky Don Mitchell, James William Mitchell, and Evelyn Elaine Mitchell/McAllister

Joyce graduated High School in 1952. The family moved from Lamesa, Texas, to Denver City, Texas, in 1965, where Don went to work for Texaco and Joyce became the manager of Sears and Roebuck.

She played softball on a lady’s team, she was the offi cial press scorekeeper and bookkeeper and announced the game over the local station radio, and watched her sons play baseball.

She became owner with her husband, Don, and bookkeeper for L & M Truck Service, as well as convenience stores in Denver City and Plains, Texas. They attended Bethel Baptist Church in Denver City, and played an active role in the church.

The family moved to South Texas and would later start United Construction Company where she continued to be the bookkeeper for the company

They moved to Snook, Texas, in 1980, where she continued as the bookkeeper.

In 1990, they moved to Caldwell, Texas. Joyce continued bookkeeping for Key Auto and Truck Supply and Mitchell’s Tire Service until she retired in 2018.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church from 1991 to present, serving and enjoying the church family. She was part of Stone Soup and small groups and loved the church.

Joyce moved to Burleson St. Joseph Manor in 2018 and received wonderful care by the staff and family until her death.

Joyce was an avid reader, she loved playing games especially dominoes, fortytwo and cards. She loved puzzles, also.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Mildred Moore; and her husband, Charles Don Mitchell.

She is survived by her brother, Wayne Moore and wife, Joy; her sons, Rick Mitchell and wife, L’dena, James Mitchell and wife, Julie; daughter, Elaine McAllister and her husband, Bryon; grandchildren, Michael Mitchell and wife, Stephanie, Jerome Mitchell and wife, Shelly, Kristy Garcia and husband, Robert, Jacob McAllister and wife, Ashley, Daniel Mitchell and wife, Laura, Caleb McAllister and wife, Elliot, Stephen Mitchell and wife, Jackie, Ashly Sawicki and husband, Bradley, Ethan Mitchell and wife, Jordan. She had 21 great-grandchildren, Lexi and Maverick McAllister, Emersyn and Kolt McAllister, Scottie and Steelie Sawicki, Holly and Gracie Mitchell, Brantleigh and Holston Mitchell, Zachary and Hayden Mitchell, Roby, Andrew, Caire and Emily Garcia, Ava, Ella, and Lilah Mitchell, Soren and Brooks Mitchell. Last, but not least, she had a great host of friends.
