FRANCES BERNICE LEWIS

Frances Bernice Lewis passed into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, March 19, 2023, in College Station, Texas, after a battle with cancer.

An only child, Bernice was born on July 16, 1939, in Dallas, Texas, to Frances and Melvin Klofanda.

She was raised by her beloved Aunt Lovie and Uncle Mac Mikeska in Grand Prairie, Texas.

She earned her B.A. from Angelo State University and her Masters of Education from Texas A&M University.

A gifted and loving teacher, Bernice taught special education in New Mexico and Texas for over 20 years.

She met Durwood Lewis on a blind date at the Texas A&M vs. Texas football game in 1958. They were married for over 62 years with nary a dull moment.

Bernice was a devoted and patriotic Air Force wife, a passionate supporter of POW and MIA families and a pivotal organizer for Republican Party elections in Brazos County.

Bernice loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was an avid cat lover and knitter, and an advocate for the vulnerable. She poured her heart into everything she held dear.

She is survived by her husband, Durwood Lewis; her son, Durwood Lee Lewis and wife, Cinda, from Lexington, Texas; Frances Bernice Lewis passed into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, March 19, 2023, in College Station, Texas, after a battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on April 1, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church in College Station, Texas.
