Glen Edward Wearden, Sr, 83, of Caldwell, Texas, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday August 28, 2022.
A public visitation was held September 1, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell with a Rosary from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.
A funeral Mass was held in his honor on Friday September 2, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell, Texas.
Burial followed at St. Mary Cemetery.
Glen Wearden was born on July 29, 1939, to Lawrence and Nora Wearden in Bay City, Texas. He was one of five siblings.
Glen married his lifelong love, Amelia (Pargac) Wearden on February 12, 1962. They were married until she went to be with the Lord in 2021, nearly 60 years.
To this union came four children, Judy Ahrens and husband, Keith, Joseph Wearden (deceased), Mary Beirne and husband, Martin, and Glen Wearden Jr.; one grandchild, Martin (Douglas) Bierne IV.
Glen graduated from St. Mary’s University, San Antonio, Texas, with a Bachelor of Arts in music.
He served his country in the U.S. Army, two tours of duty in Vietnam. Glen also served in the National Guard and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1999.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell and was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church in 1998, serving at St. Mary’s in Caldwell, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Frenstat, St. Joseph’s in Dime Box and St. Anne in Somerville.
He loved music, and played the trombone most of his life in college, military marching bands, as well as playing with the Brazos Symphony for a number of years.
Glen loved to build and fly radio control model airplanes.
He was a loving, gentle man with a quiet manner, a wonderful father and loving husband. He loved talking with people and saw the best in others. He had a special way of helping the people in his life understand that they are loved unconditionally.
His family is grateful for his love and sharing his strong faith in God. He had a great sense of humor -- no one could beat his oneliners.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Nora Wearden; his spouse, Amelia; one child, Joseph Wearden; two brothers, Michael Wearden and Thomas Wearden.
He is survived by his children, Judy Ahrens, Mary Beirne, and Glen Wearden Jr.; one grandchild, Martin (Douglas) Beirne; s i s t e r , Nola Russell; brother, Patrick Wearden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caldwell.
The family would like to thank the staff of Burleson St. Joseph Manor and Hospice Brazos Valley for their devoted service to Glen in his time of need. Thank you for your good and Holy work -bringing Christ’s love to Glen and his family.
