HENRY “MICKY” GROCE

January 6, 1956 June 8, 2023 Henry “Micky” Groce, 67, of Caldwell, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones.

Visitation was held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Micky was born on January 6, 1956, to Thomas and Madeline Groce in Cameron, Texas.

He was raised in Volney, Texas, along with his twin brother, Roger “Ricky” Groce, older sister, Gail Weathers, and older brothers, Dennis, Don, and Jimmie Groce.

He graduated from Caldwell High Shool in Caldwell, Texas, in 1975.

It was there that he met the love of his life, Michelle. They were married on May 24, 1980, and just celebrated their 43rd anniversary together. He was her “Mick” and she was his “Chick.”

Their love and marriage produced two wonderful sons, Josh and Chad, a daughter-in-love, Amber, and three grandsons, Kade, Jax, and Xander.

After high school, Micky worked for Weaver and Lina Refrigeration before attending Capitol Barber College in Austin, Texas.

He was in business 33 years as a Barber on the Caldwell Square at Cozy Barbershop and looked forward to going to work every day.

He always enjoyed visiting with his customers and loved learning where they were from and who they were related to. He may not have been able to tell you the County Road numbers, but he sure knew who lived down each and every one of them.

Micky is survived by his wife, Michelle; sons, Josh (Amber), and Chad; grandsons, Kade, Jax, and Xander; mother, Madeline; brothers, Roger “Ricky” (Kathy), Jimmie, Don (Sylvia), and Dennis (Mary Ann); and sister, Gail Weathers (Rick); and many other family and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Micky to further MAs. His MS progressed and he was forced to retire. He found new ways to visit his friends in the community. We referred to these visits as “drive bys” and his route grew as his friends retired.

Before the MS took hold of his mobility, you would often find him on his days off outside on a tractor, mower, slinging an ax, or clearing brush with a machete. It’s what he loved to do most.

But what he loved most in life was his family. Whether that was spending Sunday afternoons in fellowship with his parents and siblings over a fried chicken supper that his Mama whipped up, or watching his sons and later, grandsons, play in the yard.

If you really knew Micky, you know he had a love of all things Tabasco. Whether it be on a chick-o-stick, a Lay’s potato chip, or a peanut butter cookie.

He also loved to travel, camp, and drive, drive, drive. He never seemed to get tired of it. Although, who could get tired of a 1972 Red Chevelle? He sure loved that car. When his love of cars carried over to Josh, he loved to drive to the race track to watch Josh race his Camaro. Watching him break it was less pleasant, but he still cherished the time spent. Really though, he cherished all time spent with his family.

When Chad developed an interest in welding, many a night was spent hovered over a welding machine and pipe, watching Chad improve his craft.

To this day, his boys are often approached by Micky’s past customers and reminded of his caring heart, genuine conversation, and great haircuts.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Groce; stepfather, Bryan Bates; and other extended family members.
