Lucinda Arcadia Murphy of Somerville, Texas, passed away on January 14, 2023.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., at Strickland Funeral Home, 545 8th Street, Somerville, Texas.
Mass will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 333 Thornberry Dr., Somerville, Texas, with burial to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery.
Lucinda Murphy was born on December 7, 1939, in Somerville, Texas, to Margarito and Lucinda Orozco of Somerville.
Lucinda along with her many siblings and friends attended Somerville ISD. She pursued her education and received her associates degree in Theology.
Lucinda met her husband, John William Murphy, at All Saints Catholic Church in Fort Worth, Texas. They married on July
3, 1982, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
During their time in Fort Worth, she worked as the Director of Religious Education.
They moved to Illinois, where Lucinda worked as a Manager at Marshall Fields.
Their family was completed with Camilo coming home in 1992 and Andy following in 1994.
They finally settled in San Antonio where Lucinda became Director of Spanish Ministries at St. Padre Pio.
Her love for people and passion for helping others is what led her to take part in so many non-profit organizations and committees.
She was the current President of the Somerville Historical Society and curator of the museum. She was also President of Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery. Lucinda was a member of the Red Hat Society, and the Somerville Ex-Students Association.
She was passionate about volunteering for the Senior Citizens and taking food to the elderly.
Lucinda’s hobbies included organizing Estate Sales, watching old western movies, playing the guitar, piano and singing.
She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and family.
Lucinda was preceded in death by her husband, John William Murphy; her parents, Margarito and Lucinda Orozco; brother, Joe Orozco; sisters, Pauline Sifuentes, Angela Rodriguez, Angelita Munoz; brothers- in-law, Frank Garcia, Martin Rodriguez, Ajit Mankekar, Jimmy Montelongo, Richard Sifuentes; sister-inlaw, Lydia Orozco; and nephew, Joey Orozco.
She is survived by her son, Camilo William Murphy; daughter- in-law, Hannah Murphy; and son, Andres Arcadio Murphy. Her pride and joy were her two grandchildren, Eleanor and William Murphy. She is also survived by sisters, Antonia Montelongo, Nicanora Garcia, Lucia Mankekar; brothers, Delfino Orozco, Gonzalo Orozco; brother-in-law, Mario Munoz; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, greatnephews, and many loving relatives.
Pallbearers include Patrick Munoz, Rick Montelongo, Aaron Mankekar, Mason Palmer, Tim O’Connor, Matt O’Connor, Oscar Orozco, and Benito Orozco.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
